Youth Dream

Volunteering can be a rewarding experience. We need help from people from all walks of life to help both young people and adults in the local community.  We would like to thank you for your interest in volunteering for Youth Dream.

Volunteer With Us

The Bridge, which is at the heart of Youth Dream, opened in April 2015 providing services for young people under the age of 18 and in 2017 added a second service for adults following the success of the youth work and an identified need for adult support. A small team of dedicated staff work with volunteers from the community to provide a range of services and activities for those in need. We provide a counselling service (youth and adult), mentoring and support service (youth and adult) and sexual health advice (youth only). Sometimes our clients just need a friendly ear and others need referring to organisations better placed to help them but our policy is to offer some sort of help and support to everyone who comes to us.

We ask volunteers to decide if they would prefer to work within the youth or adult service. We then ask you to sign up to volunteer for ‘terms’ if working with the Youth Service to fit around school term times and in three monthly stints (which match the terms) if wishing to work within the Adult Service. We then ask you to confirm your availability around the services that we provide and ask if you have any particular fields of experience or interest so that we can place the right young people or adults with you.

Once we have received your completed form, we will invite you for a training session. At this session (normally one week day evening or at a time to suit you) we will give you more details about The Bridge, its policies and procedures, put you through some safeguarding training if you have chosen to work with the young people and some mentor training. We advise you of the self-report forms that clients need to use at the beginning and end of their journey with us so that we can measure our work and how to refer to management any client issues. All volunteers receive debriefing sessions so that we can give you the support and advice you may need as a volunteer. Lastly, all volunteers receive a free DBS check.
